A Devotional:

You Would Not Believe It!

“Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”

– Habakkuk 1:5

You know the saying “if you would have told me that 5 years ago, I would have never believed you”? You can say it a few different ways but you get the idea. If you are like me, you may be a realistic or practical person so maybe you don’t “dream” like other people do. I am NOT a dreamer and I don’t really consider myself creative either, but I have my moments of creativity. But what about our futures? Do you dream or are you more practical? I also hate the question people ask, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” I always answer with things like “following God’s plan for me” or “happy”. I am a goal setter, don’t get me wrong, but I also know that things change and happen in our lives unexpectedly.

When I read Habakkuk 1:5 for the first time, it hit me so hard. I was in college and getting close to finishing my time there. At that point I was student teaching and planned on being a teacher and coach, but the plot twist happens and I clearly heard the Lord say to me that I needed to be in ministry…as in church ministry. I kept thinking “Why Lord?? I just spent literally 4 years pursuing a degree in EDUCATION!” I did not know a single thing about what it meant to work in ministry, let alone a church. I had never thought so seriously about my future before. So just like the Lord does, He guided every step of the way and had already been putting in place people that would help me land a spot on staff here at FBCBA. It is truly a God thing that I wish I could share with the world. My steps and decisions were guided out for me by the Lord and all I needed to do was be obedient as He led me on the path of His will for me.

Taking the verse from Habakkuk and fully understanding that God cares so much about me that His plans for me are more than I will ever be able to come up with on my own blows me away! I love simplicity, so naturally I truly enjoy a simple life. Taking this verse and knowing God put it on my heart means that His plans for me will be fulfilled and anything but simple. It’s exciting to know that God has plans dreamed up for me and I pray that I always answer Him with a confident “YES Lord, I am ready!” I firmly believe that we, as Christ followers, should already have an obedient heart to say “YES” and answer yes for when God calls us in the next step of His will for our lives.

I pray that no matter where you are currently in life, that you have the excitement that God will take you places that you never imagined! I encourage you to take that next step and fully commit yourself to the Lord’s will for your life and be ready to say “ yes Lord” when He calls on you.

Pray: Lord, You are the ultimate provider, I want to commit my life to You. Guide me today, show me where You need me. Help me to let go of my sins that are holding me back from fully surrendering to You. I want to glorify You every step of my day. Thank You Lord for my life and providing for me daily.
