Where Does My Help Come From?
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
– Psalm 121:1-2
My husband, Jerry and I, love hiking in the mountains of Colorado! The beauty and majesty found along the trail is truly an amazing experience—from the smallest of mountain flower to the magnificent vistas. There is nothing like it! And the sore legs and aching muscles after the hike is worth it knowing we made it to our destination and all that we saw along the way.
One particular time, we were hiking above timberline and actually saw clouds floating below us at one point. Our elevation was around 10,000 feet and the air was very thin. We were both struggling to breathe and to take that next step. But we both wanted to get to our final destination—the top of the ridge.
We could see the top of the ridge, but I was really having a hard time of it and I told Jerry to go ahead without me. At this point, he was almost to the top of the ridge. Instead of going on, he turned around and came down the trail to where I was. Then Jerry took my hand and said, “I want us to see this together.”
This is what our Heavenly Father does for us. He sees us struggling along the path of life and waits to see how we are doing. Then, when we call out to Him, He reaches down with His hand of love, picks us up, and draws us closer to Him so we can make it along the path we are going.
God will never let go of us on this journey of life when we are finding it hard to breathe, when we are struggling to take that next step, or when we are feeling alone. We only need to call out to Him and God will be there to help us reach our destination.
Do you know where your help comes from? Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ, call out to Him, admit you are a sinner, believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and then ask Jesus to become the Lord of your life.
If you are struggling in this season of life, look to the One who can lift you up with His mighty hand. Remember, our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth! He is there waiting to help us find eternal life in Him.
PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for creating this beautiful world that we live in and for giving us our beautiful, Heavenly home! We know our help comes from You and we praise You for always being there for us, no matter what we are going through! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
