”My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge.”
– Psalms 62:1-2
I don’t know about you, but every time I turn on the television, I can’t help but shake my head at what I see. We live in a world gone mad. Hatred and violence reside in our cities and darkness seems to prevail. Murders and rioting seem to be the norm, not the exception. Political leaders spend more time fighting than leading, all while the Biblical moral fabric of the nation is unraveling at lightning speed before our very eyes. We seem to be sitting on a powder keg ready to explode while fuel is being added to the pile daily.
I have to confess, I want to trust God. But so many times I fail. Sometimes it’s difficult to see how God is in control of all the chaos in this world. I’m reminded often of the song we sing here at church, “We Will Not Be Shaken”.
For we trust in our God
And through His unfailing love
We will not be shaken
Though the battle rages
We will stand in the fight
Though the armies rise up against us on all sides
We will not be shaken
For in the hour of our darkest day
We will not tremble, we won’t be afraid
Hope is rising like the light of dawn
Our God is for us He has overcome
What a powerful song rooted in God’s word! No matter what happens to us or this world, God will overcome and we will not be shaken. I don’t know about you, but this song cuts through the discouragement that creeps into my heart. It’s important that we spend time alone with God in prayer and in His Word daily so that we can renew our minds and stand firm on His promises. I pray that is a part of your daily routine.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
On an encouraging note: God’s people all across America are being called to humble themselves, pray, and seek His face. I truly believe God is up to something big, and I want to be a part of it. I pray a revival will sweep across this land in such a way that only God can get the glory.
Lord, give me the strength to trust in You. In all of the uncertainties in life, may I remember that You are my rock, my fortress, and my stronghold. I do pray for a revival across this land, but Lord, let it begin with me. Thank you for the hope I have in Your victorious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen
