A Devotional:

SOUL CONVERSATIONS

“My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.  He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken.  On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.  Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

– Psalm 62:5-8

Do you ever talk to yourself? I do and I know from experience that what you say to yourself is life-altering!  King David spent a lot of time speaking to himself and I have learned some valuable lessons from his soul conversations.

Psalm 62 became a life-line to me as I lay in a hospital bed the week of my son’s wedding.  God had answered so many prayers. I had prayed for David to find God’s choice for his future bride and now I was going to miss the wedding due to a perforated colon. My heart ached as I found my faith being tested.

As I cried out to the LORD, I discovered this conversation that King David had with himself 3000 years ago. Then I found myself thinking about and rehearsing in my mind who was really in control and what I should do in this situation.

This Psalm showed me four things:

  • To WAIT on God only….to hope in Him alone
  • To FOCUS on Who God is…My Rock of strength, my salvation, my stronghold, and my Refuge
  • Then to choose to TRUST HIM
  • POUR OUT MY HEART to Him.

With God’s help, I made that choice and the result was PEACE, CALM, AND AN UNSHAKEN spirit.

I knew it would be alright because either way, if God healed me or if not, I would trust in Him.

What would happen if today we chose to wait on God, focus on who He is, and trust Him?

The Psalmist says it clearly….”WE WILL NOT BE SHAKEN!”

By the way, God heard and answered the cry of my heart. I got out of the hospital in time to attend and enjoy my son’s wedding!!

Pray: Heavenly Father, help us today to make the choice to Wait on You, Focus on You and Trust You as we lay our burdens down in prayer. Bring peace and an unshakable calmness to our minds and spirits for Your glory.  Amen
