Now that all year-end holiday activity is behind us, we can, once again, focus on regular communication related to the Pastor Search Transition. Beginning immediately, this Pastor Search page will assume a prominent location on the church’s website and continue to serve as the central information center with updates and general information on all things related to the pastor search process. Keeping you up to date on the latest search activity is a critical element in ensuring a seamless, healthy, and informed process that will ultimately result in calling the man God has placed His hand on to shepherd this flock.

As we move further into this new year, much activity associated with the search process will move into high gear, the most critical of which is the election of a Pastor Search Committee. Already, the Finance and Personnel Ministry Teams are prayerfully considering names of church members from all corners of the church that they will nominate to serve on the committee and on which you will vote. You may recall in the Pastor Transition presentation made last September we were informed that our church by-laws had been updated and approved in April last year for this purpose. As a reminder, Section 7 of our by-laws reads as follows:

“When a Search Committee is necessary, the members of the committee shall be elected by a voted of the church at a special business meeting. This list of nominees will be submitted by the Advisory Ministry Team for the final vote and selection. The Advisory Ministry Team will receive a list of five (5) names from each of the Standing Committees of the church, except the Advisory Ministry Team. Each list shall contain no more than one of the names being a member of the subject team or other standing committee and the balance of the names coming from the church-at-large. The Advisory Ministry Team shall have the responsibility for qualifying from that list eight (8) names and then that list will be taken to the church for a vote where four (4) will be chosen to serve on the Search Committee. To complete the committee, the Chairman of the Personnel Ministry Team, the Chairman of the Finance Ministry Team and the Chairman of the Deacon Body at the time of the formation will automatically become members of the Search Committee, thus creating a committee of seven (7) to serve. This committee will take the necessary steps to recommend to the church a man to serve as the Senior Pastor. The Search Committee will serve for the duration of the process. If a member of the Search Committee is unable to fulfill their service, a replacement will be appointed by the Advisory Ministry Team.”

In the hustle and bustle of forming a Pastor Search Committee, it can be easy to forget that we are only a tool in God’s process of bringing a new pastor to His church. Therefore, we must remain steadfast and faithful in continuing to pray that His perfect will be carried out, that we keep our focus on Him during a time when it will be tempting to focus on our own expectations, and that we continue to move forward with the Kingdom work that is ever before us.

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2

The selection of a Senior Pastor Search Committee is one of the most important and impactful decisions a church can make when entering the process of calling a new Senior Pastor. This committee is especially critical to the church’s body because of the sacredness of the pulpit. When a church is searching for a new pastor, it is at a holy crossroads. For this reason, several steps have already been taken to ensure that the journey forward is one of trust, obedience, faith, and perseverance as we look to the One who truly is Jehoveh Jireh….the One who will provide.

Did you know that the process began almost a year ago? Early in 2018, a team of FBCBA members were charged with the responsibility of recommending changes to our church by-laws on the matter of Pastor Search Committee selection to ensure that our by-laws are clear, up-to-date, and Biblically sound. The Pastor Transition Team in their presentation to the membership last September, emphasized the importance of following the LORD’s guidance in the selection process in order to avoid difficulties other churches have experienced. And, the 40 Days of Prayer Guide in which many of us participated, focused a number of days on the importance of selecting a Pastor Search Committee to make sure we are putting God first in a process that, if we’re not careful, can be very man-centered. Soon, we will be at the point to which we see first-hand what we have been working and praying towards.

In last week’s article, you saw the Section in our church by-laws that addresses the Search Committee for Senior Pastor process. The Finance and Personnel Ministry Teams, along with the Advisory Ministry Team, will by the end of February present to you the names of eight members on which you will be asked to vote. The four individuals receiving the highest number of votes will serve alongside the members of the Advisory Ministry Team to comprise the seven Committee members. Brief bios of each of the eight men and women will be posted on this website for you to review and pray over. Plenty of advance notice will also be given on the date of the church business meeting at which time the vote will be taken.

It’s difficult to believe we are at this point. For many of us, we approach this moment with some degree of trepidation and anxiety. But we also enter this chapter with a strong sense of excitement and eager anticipation as we look forward to a new season in the life of our church and seeing what the Almighty will do. Let’s faithfully and prayerfully do our part and I am confident He will do His…

This website is designed for each of our church family to have access to current information from our Pastor Search Team and any details that the church would need to know regarding transition issues. Along the way, members may have questions regarding transition related issues processes, or status of the work.. This will be the site for those questions to be sent and answered.

Also, this is the site where we will post daily prayer guides for our FORTY DAYS OF PRAYER beginning October 1, 2018. Our hope is that as you grow accustomed to checking this site for your daily prayer guide, you will find it easier to refer to this site often through the transition period for updates.

Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord through this church. As we make this journey together, we will become more connected through praying for each other and staying informed which will make us knowledgeable of our current status in the process.

Blessings on you!

  1. How will the pastor search team be formed?
The pastor search team will be made up of seven people from the congregation. The chairman of the deacon body, the finance team, and personnel team will make up the first three of the search team. The other four people will be selected by a church vote in quarter one 2019.
  2. How long will the search take?
That’s a great question! The truth is we don’t know. As we pray together as a church body and seek the Lord for His guidance we will simply wait on His timing.
  3. When will the search committee start accepting resumes for the senior pastor position?
When the pastor search team is formed they will go through a time of preparation and training. Once that is completed, the search team will begin accepting resumes. The time and manner in which the resumes will be received will be publicized to the congregation.
