A Devotional:

More Than You Will Ever Know!

See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are.

– 1 John 3:1

With all of the craziness going on through the pandemic this year, we had the blessing of getting to spend time with our family in Branson in July. It turned into a mini family reunion on my side. My brother had just purchased a lake house on Table Rock Lake, and he graciously let us stay there along with my kids, grandkids, and my niece. My brothers, sister, and mom would drive in each day from Branson, and we would spend the day together. We went to Silver Dollar City one day, but spent the rest of the days swimming in the lake, relaxing, and catching up with life.

While there, one of the most special times that I hope I never forget was when I was swimming with our grandkids, Liam and Harper.  There was a buoy that had “no wake” painted on it, and we would swim to it and then swim back. This one particular time, my 6-year-old grandson, Liam, and I were swimming out to it. We both had our life jackets on, so we were taking our time swimming and talking as we slowly headed toward the buoy.  As I was talking to Liam, he was looking directly at me. He took his two little hands and grasped the front of my life jacket and said, “Ba (that’s what the grandkids call me), I love you more than you’ll ever know”! You can imagine how my heart just melted, and I responded with, “I love you too, Liam”.

When I think about my grandkids, Liam, Harper, and Hudson, I want the very best for them, and I love them so deeply and unconditionally. There is someone though, who loves them even more. I want them to know and experience the love that God has for them and have great plans He for each one of them.  I want them to know that God sent His son Jesus to die on a cross for them. I want them to know salvation through Jesus, and that He wants to have a personal relationship with them and spend time with them. God has that same love and desire for each one of us, to know us more and for us to know Him and live a life pleasing to Him.

Although my love for my kids and grandkids is insurmountable, God’s love is stronger and so much greater than anything we can comprehend here on this earth.  He loves us “more than we will ever know”!  Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”  Jeremiah 29:11, says For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Pray: Lord God, thank You for the unconditional love that You have for me. Thank You for accepting me just as I am. Thank You for the relationship that You desire to have with me and the plans that You have for my life. Thank You most of all for sending Your Son to die on a cross for me and to all who believe. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
