A Devotional:

I Will Say It Again: Rejoice!

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don’t worry about anything but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things. Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

– Philippians 4:4-9

Paul is writing about the characteristics that we should be reflecting, as Christ-followers, in our day-to-day lives.  Rejoicing always! Gracious to everyone. Not worriers, but prayer warriors. When we pursue Christ, we become more like Him. We begin to be molded by who He is, and we are no longer consumed by what is in this world.

I have discovered that for me, I cannot watch the news all the time. It affects my mind negatively. These verses reminded me this week to focus on higher things. We are to focus on whatever is just, pure, lovely, commendable, moral, and praiseworthy.  We see in this passage that when we pursue Christlikeness and adjust our focus, the result will be a peace that only God can give. A peace that guards our hearts and minds.

Today, let’s focus on loving others and reflecting Christlikeness to the world around us.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Pray: Father, thank you for this day from You. Today I want to focus on the things of You and not the world. I pray for the peace that only comes from You. Help me to reflect You to my family, neighbors and those you put in my path today.
