He Holds My Hand
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’”
– Isaiah 41:13
When I was nine years old my Father took me to New York City and we went to the observation tower at the top of the Empire State Building. At that time I was deathly afraid of heights. We were on the 107th floor and over 1,000 feet in the air! I remember my small hand wrapped in my dad’s strong fingers and I was able to look down at the street far below without fear.
There are over 30 references in the Bible to the “right hand of God”. In Psalms 17 God’s right-hand offers protection, In Psalms 18 His right hand sustains us and in Psalms 20, His hand holds victorious power. In other passages, the right hand of the Lord wins the battle, brings deliverance, and is seen as powerful, strong, and exalted. Isaiah 41 paints a beautiful picture for the believer: if God is holding our right hand, then he is holding us with His left hand, which leaves His right hand available to defend, protect and do battle on our behalf.
Today there are many circumstances that appear to be discouraging and threatening. Reach up and take God’s hand. He extends it to you freely, offering the confidence of a loving Father and freedom from the bondage of fear.
PRAY: Lord, help me to realize that that you hold me with your strong hand, and I have nothing to fear. In Jesus Name, Amen.”
