A Devotional:

God DOES Hear Our Prayers

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

– I Thessalonians 5:16-18

Have you ever prayed for something specific, every single day and you just felt like God wasn’t listening? Take comfort and know that He IS listening and that He has a plan in place just for you!

When my husband and I moved back to Oklahoma in June of 2016, after living in North Carolina for 18 years, I began a job search.  I had been a ministry assistant for almost 13 years at the church we attended in North Carolina, so I really wanted to find that same type of position. Unfortunately, I was not able to find anything at a church, so I began the search for any type of administrative assistant position.

I prayed and asked God to put me where HE wanted me, and sent out lots of resumes and even signed up with an online placement service.  And I prayed some more and continued to ask God to put me where HE wanted me and sent out more resumes. Still nothing!  Not even an interview!

Finally, I contacted the company where I worked before moving to North Carolina.  At that time, they had a receptionist position open, where I would work all day on Mondays and Fridays and afternoons Tuesday-Thursday.  I ended up taking that position in August, knowing that I would likely still continue to look for a position at a church.

What I couldn’t see at the time is God’s plan and His placement of me at that company. In November of 2016, I moved my mother from Joplin to Tulsa to a nursing home due to her failing health.  By working only in the afternoons 3 days a week, I was able to visit and minister to my mother before I went to work.  I was so grateful for those 7 months I had with her before she passed away in June 2017.  After she passed, I realized that God DID, in fact, answer my prayer and put me in the place HE wanted me to be to take care of my mother.

In July of 2017, I reached out to the Executive Pastor at First Baptist Broken Arrow to see if a position might be available. As God’s timing would have it, the receptionist position was available, and I applied, interviewed, and accepted the position. Then in 2018, I became the Ministry Assistant to our Preschool, Kids, and Student Ministries and know that God fully answered my prayer for where He wanted me to serve.

We all pray daily for health for family and friends, other specific requests that come to our hearts, but most importantly salvation for family members.  I have been praying for years, every day, for salvation for certain family members. I know that God is listening and hears my prayers.  I may not see the fruit of my prayers on this side of heaven, but I take comfort in knowing I have a God who listens.

If you’ve been praying for something or someone, don’t quit! As Paul says in the scripture above “…pray without ceasing…” And remember “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”  Psalm 121:1-2

Pray:  Dear Lord, thank You for always hearing my prayers even when I think You may not hear me!  I know my help comes from You and that Your will for my life and for those for whom I am praying, is perfect!  May I always remember that You made me and loved me so much that You gave Your Son to die for my sins and I rejoice! In Jesus’s name, Amen.
