A Devotional:

Ever Wonder What God’s Will Is?

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

– 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

As people share their pictures on Facebook, I have noticed a lot of puzzles being worked these last several weeks. Several people have shared that they discovered one of the most frustrating things in working a puzzle is getting to the end and discovering you are missing a piece or two.

Sometimes our lives can feel like we have missing puzzle pieces as we struggle with the question of, what is God’s will for my life? In Psalm 136, we are reminded that no matter what shape our life takes, His steadfastness and goodness prevail over whatever is going on around me.

In Paul’s letter to Thessalonica, he lays out God’s will for us, “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” As Christians, we have grounds for joy in our salvation and our hope of what God will do.  We need to pray constantly, frequently and persistently, as we go about our day, giving our thoughts to Him as we go. While we need to be thankful in everything, there are times we may not feel thankful. But in faith, we can say, “Lord, I trust that You are good and that You know what You’re doing in every situation.”

There are many heartaches around us in today’s world. There are many questions and a lot of waiting. (Not to mention all the missing puzzle pieces that are being discovered these last few weeks.) But in everything, He is Good!

God’s love for us is steadfast! His promises stand! We are to give thanks to the One who is greater than anything we will ever face.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His faithful love endures forever…Give thanks to the God of heaven! His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1-26
