God designed the church to be an outpost of the Kingdom in every place in the world. To profess to be a “Christian” is to declare the intent of one’s heart to obey and follow Christ personally and to have the heart and mind of Jesus when interacting with others. That includes comforting those that are hurting. We are instructed by Paul that we are to comfort “others with the comfort we have received from God in our trials”. How can we be ever more effective in caring for the hurting when there are so very many of them around us?
